Mud
Oh man does this boy love the mud! We went over to papa's house (my dad's) and they had some water toys in the back yard. Needless to say, the mud was Taegen's favorite part...

A change
I've been wanting to share this for a month now but we had to wait until everything was finalized. Today Jon went up north and was sworn into the Army!!!!
He leaves for basic training July 5th! So like 2 1/2 weeks from now. And he'll be gone until mid December. This is such a huge change for us but we are excited. We know this is the right thing for our family. This will hopefully make it so I can stay at home with Taegen.
Ok so I'll start from the beginning...
about a month ago me and Jon got to talking and decided that he needed to figure out what he wanted to do with his life. Working for my dad doing construction just wasn't going to cut it much longer. The topic of him joining the army jokingly came up. He said he would like to join but never really considered it since he thought I would have a problem with it. Once he found out that if that is what he really wanted to do, I would consider it, he started seriously thinking about it. That monday (this conversation was held on a friday) he went into the recruiting office and got his paperwork. He filled it all out and said he was waiting for my go ahead to hand them in. It took me a couple days to get on board, but before the end of the week he handed them in and the ball was rolling. We hit a couple snags along the way, but they said things were still looking good. He then gets a call from his recruiter who tells him that after pulling his record the found out he had 43 violations!!! How in the world someone gets 43 violations I have no idea...but he did. The majority of these were traffic violations. (In Jons defense there was only actually 23 or so actual tickets. The rest were things that only the Army considered violations, like getting arrested for a warrant, rescheduling a court date, etc) This could possibly end up being a problem. They said they were going to have to find out if a waiver is needed. Since they've never had anyone with so many violations before they didn't quite know the protocol. The answer came back as a yes. This didn't really mean anything to us other than it was going to take a lot longer and going to be a lot more paper work for the recruiter. After about a week, the recruiter called and Jon went in to fill out his part of the waiver. The next day the waiver was sent up north for approval. After about another week it finally came back. It was both good and bad news. The waiver was approved, but not for active duty. They want him to join the reserves for a year, then they can re-evaluate and he can switch to active duty. Basically all this violations make it look like he has a problem with authority so he pretty much just needs to prove to them that he's no longer an idiot and he's grown up a little bit :) Once the approval came in, they got the paperwork and the next day he was sent up to salt lake. (which was yesterday) The waiting game was still not over. He got the go ahead, but now he still had to pass his meps (his physical). Waiting to hear from him all day today was excruciating! He got up at 5:30 and wasn't done until 4:30. It was a long day for him, but he passed. he even passed his eye exam which he didn't he would. So that was good news.
What will he be doing? His job is "Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic" So basically anything and everything that moves he gets to fix :) This was perfect. He wanted to be a driver but that isn't an option for the reserves, but mechanic was on the top of his list as well. So for now we are staying in So Utah. Once he gets back from training in December, he only has 6 more months of the reserves, then he can switch to active duty. And we'll hopefully then be stationed some where new and fun for us :) We are so excited about this! This is perfect for Jon and he couldn't be happier. He gets to play with guns and cars his two favorite things.
And actually since he joined the reserves, he got a 12K sign on bonus that he wouldn't have gotten if he went active duty. So that was a blessing.
We are sure going to miss him while he's gone though. I can't believe he leaves so soon. We originally thought he wouldn't be leaving until the end of the year so this was a huge shock. Looks like we're just going to have to make the best of the next 2 1/2 weeks.
Well I better go get ready to see my soldier :) He's on his way home from SLC now...can't wait to see him :) :)

Loves his fruits and veggies
I just take a bite from the apple to get him started and he eats the whole thing. Keeps him very entertained.
Hi mom!
He loves oranges, regular and mandarin, carrots, broccoli (but only the stems. He won't eat the flowery part) and watermelon. Just like him mommy. I can't just cut it up for him though, he wants to eat it right off the rine just like everyone else :)
Taegen is such a good tempered boy (most of the time that is). I get comments every where we go about how happy he is. This is the reason that we are nervous for our future kids. Taegen is so good that I just know the next one is gonna be a little hellian (sp?) These pictures are a perfect example. This is the smile he gives to just about everyone who gives him the slightest bit of attention. Like I've said before...he's such a flirt ;)
Easter
I hate when I get so far behind on my blogging. Now I have a lot of catching up to do, starting with Easter.
We didn't do too much since we figured he was still a little too young, but we did do a small easter egg hunt. He seemed to pick up the concept after a minute. He did have a hard time letting go of the egg to put it in the basket. He just wanted to pick up one of each hand and sit down and play. Putting them down was not so much fun :)

I'm done
Breast feeding that is. I officially stopped a few days after Taegen turned one. I've been slowly dropping meals for a month now and I'd DEFINITELY recommend doing it that way if at all possible. I didn't get engorged or have any pain. Which was SOOOOO nice. But let me tell you, I don't quite now how I feel about it now. (the fact that I'm no longer nursing, not the fact that I didn't have any pain...silly).
Nursing was such a great way to help me get in some good one on one time with Taegen and to make sure that he felt he was getting enough of my attention. Since I'm working part time, I'm constantly feeling he isn't getting enough mommy time. This has been one of the toughest things about leaving him at a sitters.
I do not miss the fact that I HAD to be the one to put T in bed since Jon couldn't exactly nurse him before hand. And it's been nice not having the stress of making sure I'm getting enough water/food. But man did that make meal time so much easier! Ever since I've stopped, he's turned into the pickiest eater. He use to eat just about anything.

It's driving me crazy. I'll make something for dinner, and he won't touch it. He has to like it the minute it hits his tongue or theres no use even trying. He use warm up to things. He'd think he didn't like it, but would try it again and realize that it wasn't as bad as he thought. Boy have things changed. I'm having a hard time coming up with things that he'll eat. I think he's too young to understand the concept of "you eat what mom made for dinner or you don't eat at all", and I don't want him to starve but I absolutely hate wasting food too.
When I was nursing, I couldn't wait for it to be over. Now that it is, I wish I still was. Grass is always greener on the other side right?! Ok, I wouldn't say that I really wish that I still was, I just miss the convenience of it. But I will say this. I'm glad I nursed for a full year, and even though its rough it's worth it. And is something I will do with all of my future kids as well.

Birthday Party
We had such a special day. We had Jon's endowment session that morning, followed by lunch, then the birthday party. We figured we'd just do it all in one day. I didn't get any pictures of everyone that came to the temple or to lunch to support Jon, but we had a good little crowd. Thanks so much to everyone!
The night before I had lots of baking/decorating to do. I made Taegen's cake plus 48 cupcakes. It took me about 4 1/2 hours to get them all finished. They were super cute though.
Taegen got a lot of presents, and he loves them all. Grandma got him big legos and he LOVES them. Except you can't build anything with him because he immediately starts tearing it down. I think thats his favorite part. We spent a good 30 minutes doing just that the other day.
He got a dancing monkey and he couldn't keep his eyes off it. That was one of the first presents we opened and he kept looking around for the monkey. (we eventually had to hide it because he was showing no interest in anything else).

CAKE TIME...

He went straight for the cookies on top. First the chocolate chip ones...
then the oreo. He LOVES oreos.
We had to take off all the cookies and hide them for him to even be remotely interested in the cake.
He ate the cake little piece by little piece. He didn't dig all the way in, he'd just grab what he could, eat that, then go in for more. Totally calm
I'm done! He's pushing away the cake.

I know when he's done with something because he'll start to try to clean off his tray.
He normally picks things up and drops them off the side, this time he just started wiping his hands all over the tray to get all the crumbs off.
He's such a stud!
Taeg LOVES chocolate, so he obviously had a great time....

After the party we went back to grandma and grandpas house and had a little fun playin in the rocks.

All in all, we had a wonderful day!
