The one where gma and pa came to visit pt 2

The next day (sat) of our mini vacation, we had a relatively relaxing day. I forgot to mention that grandma and grandpa E came down to visit because Jon had a 4 day weekend due to Memorial Day. It was so nice to have him home for that long.
It rained pretty bad the night before so Taegens soccer game was canceled. We tried to go to the Alamo instead but the line was ridiculously long and we had a party for Taegens soccer team to get to. The party was at a place called MoMak's. It has a fun playground in the backyard for the kids to play in, but we didn't go out there. We stayed inside for the party. Taegen got a trophy and they had a cake with a picture of his team on it. He even got to eat the slice of cake with his face on it. He thought that was pretty cool. He is on the bottom row last one of the right.
here he is getting his trophy.
Dad and Taegs with his trophy.
Sunday we just lounged around, after going to church. We made goodies, watched Wreck it Ralph and enjoyed each others company. Monday morning we got up hung around the house for a little bit, then went and got some pizza and went to a park. After that we had to drop grandma and grandpa off a the airport :(
and yes Ellie is wearing a bib. She was slobbering so bad I had to put one on her to keep her dry. And since I don't really have any girl ones, she always gets stuck with boy ones :)

This is what they did while Taegs was out playing.

Of course Taegen made gpa take his turn carrying him across the monkey bars.

Taegen had so much fun just hanging out with Grandma and grandpa
It rained quite a bit all weekend so when we got home one day Jon and grandpa took Taegen outside and this is how he came back. Super dirty and drenched from head to toe. Puddle splashing is of course his favorite thing to do when it rains.
On saturday night Mark and JaRene were so kind and let us go out on a date. We haven't been out on a date just the two of us since Ellie was born! We went and saw Star Trek 2. We both really enjoyed it. Although I will admit I was a nervous wreck. We put the kids to bed before we left but about a half hour before we were to leave Ellie woke up. She's notorious for doing this, but had been getting a little bit better the past couple of weeks. I was hoping she wouldn't wake up until after we got home. But since she didn't, I was afraid she'd wake up again and that grandma wouldn't be able to calm her down. For for her lack of skills, because she's an excellent grandma and mom. But because no one other than me has ever put Ellie to sleep. So I was afraid that Ellie just wouldn't cooperate. I had complete faith in JaRene, not so much in Ellie. But once the movie got started (which it was 5 minutes late in starting, no big deal.. but then they played 20 minutes of previews. holy ridiculous if you ask me!) I was able to focus on the movie and forget about it a little bit. I did however have my phone in between my legs the whole time. :/ I know, its my 2nd baby, it should be easier to leave her. But this was my first time leaving her for longer than 10-20 minutes. So I really had no idea how she would do.
Now the only pictures I got are absolutely terrible. The first one didn't have a flash and the second one...well you'll see.

We had so much fun playing with grandma and grandpa for a couple days. Since they are able to fly non-rev, grandma said she was going to try to make it down here again in a couple months for a few days. And boy are we looking forward to that. Taegen absolutely loved seeing them, and me and Jon loved having someone else to entertain him :) All in all it was a great weekend. Now it's back to regular life...lame! :) Anyone else who feels the need to come visit us, please do :) We'd love to have you.

The One with Corpus Christi

Grandma and grandpa Evertsen came down to visit us over the holiday weekend. We had so much fun with them. Sadly we just barely had to drop them off at the airport :( But grandma said she's going to try to come back down in a couple months, so we're looking forward to that.
The first day they got here we went down to the river walk to find some dinner.

The next day we woke up and drove down to Corpus Christi. Jon's grandpa Evertsen served in the Navy and the ship he served on, the U.S.S. Lexington, is docked at Corpus Christi and you can go do tours of it.
The ship even has a plank. Although they did say that the Navy did not participate in the "walking the plank" but there actually were some pirates that did. Here is Jon at the end and Taegen trying to make his way down to him.
Grandma, Taegen and Grandpa walking the plank.
Grandma turned around once she realized it was hanging over the edge of the ship with nothing but water underneath them. So here are the brave boys that made it to the end of the plank.
 Grandpa and Taegs
The ship was nicknamed "The Blue Ghost" and here's why.

The anchor
 Huge gun

Taegs sitting in a small airplane. There were a few of these specifically for picture taking and he loved them. He made sure he got to sit in all of them.
I've got my own Blue Angel :)
waiting his turn to go up the super steep stairs
up on the flight deck. It was HUGE up there. It was big enough to park 1000 cars on it
grandma and Taegs in the captains chair
This is the type of plane is grandpa probably flew. They don't really know for sure but by reading the descriptions of all of them this is the main one that was in operation during his tour.
Grandpa Evertsen was on the ship when it got bombed and the only reason he was saved is because he jumped under the huge gun thing (can't remember the actual name of it). The guy behind/next to him ended up taking all the shrapnel. Grandpa E had bad hearing, part of which was hereditary, but also in part because of the bombing.
This ship had an escalator! It wasnt working though. At first I thought they added it for the tours, but they didn't. It was added in the 40's.
Grandma, the kids and I got tired of the ship so we skipped out on the remaining tours and went and played in the ocean. This was Taegens first time in the ocean.
Not the best family picture, but it's all we got.

 mommy, Ellie and Taegs.
The water was so nice, temperature wise. It was a little murky looking but not enough to stop us from getting in. We had so much fun. Taegen rode on Jon's back when we went out beyond the crashing point of the waves.

And when he had had enough this is what he did :)
It was a two hour drive to get there but both of the kids did pretty good. We did have to stop once on the way there, but that was mainly because of a slight truck problem. I then used that time to feed Ellie, so everyone got out and T had a little fun running around.
95% of the time this is how he gets his shoes on. One the wrong feet and at least one foot, if not both, have the toe thing inbetween the wrong toes.

Taegen will wear daddys hat every chance he gets. He loves being a soldier

And this is him saluting. He actually put on the hat, looked and grandpa and saluted all on his own. I thought it was so cute I made him do it again for me. We've tried to correct the direction his hand faces, but he can't seem to figure that out. So for now his salute is a palm out instead of palm down.
We found E some sunglasses too.
Oh look, here's some pictures out of order. It's late so i'm not going to fix them. But here's Taegs in front of one of the planes they had below deck of the ship.
and here he is with grandma in another one of those small half planes made for taking pictures in.
Seriously these are the best pictures. You should enlarge them if you can to see Taegens face. Classic. He was having so much fun. Grandma was lifting him up whenever the wave would come.
